Scope of Experience
Duane serves as Chief Executive Officer of NAI Legacy and is the sole owner and Managing Member of the firm’s management and sponsorship entities. With over 30 years of experience in the real estate industry, Duane brings a deep and diverse background in commercial real estate investment, development, and capital markets.
Duane also serves as President of Exchange Realty Inc., a private investment firm focused on the acquisition and ownership of commercial real estate. Through affiliated entities, he oversees a broad portfolio of assets including industrial, office, medical, retail, self-storage, and development land.
Earlier in his career, Duane played a key role in the formation and leadership of several public and private real estate companies. He was a founding UPREIT partner and Senior Regional Director at First Industrial Realty Trust (NYSE: FR), the largest UPREIT partner in Stonehaven Realty Trust (AMEX: RPP), and an UPREIT partner in Investors Real Estate Trust (NYSE: IRET). He also co-founded RESoft Inc., a real estate technology platform, and served as a Partner at The Shidler Group, a private national real estate investment firm.
Before entering real estate, Duane began his career as a CPA with KPMG Peat Marwick. His experience spans over a decade in public REIT leadership, private equity investment, and strategic capital structuring.
Duane is a former President of the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association and continues to support the University of Wisconsin Center for Real Estate. He has also served on advisory boards for NAIOP, Midwest Real Estate News, the Minnesota Real Estate Journal, and the KPMG Peat Marwick Alumni Association.
A frequent keynote speaker at national industry events, Duane is recognized for his expertise in capital market strategy, 1031 exchange structuring, REITs, and real estate acquisitions and dispositions.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree in Real Estate from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
