Scope of Service Experience
Mick Matheusik has worked with virtually all types of hotels and commercial real estate in 12 different countries worldwide. Since the mid 1970’s, he has worked as a professional certified urban planner, certified management consultant (CMC), and licensed commercial broker in various capacities including: regional/urban and strategic planning, development, operational reviews, valuations, merchandising strategies, leasing, hotel operator procurement, expert witness, due diligence and investment sales. The majority of his present focus is on hotel, motel, resort, retail, and investment sales.
Background & Experience
Mick is also President of TREC International Inc, a Vancouver based management and development consulting firm that specializes in strategic planning and repositioning of resort, hotel, tourism, retail, businesses, and economic developments. This enables Mick to continue to keep abreast with industry trends and market conditions as well as identify top or profitable 'niches' or opportunities that typical brokers often miss.
Prior to joining NAI Commercial and establishing TREC International in 1997, he was employed for 12 years by two of North America’s leading hotel, hospitality, tourism, and retail consulting firms (Laventhol & Horwath and Thomas) during which time he spent almost ten years managing real estate offices in Queensland, Australia and Vancouver, BC.
He has written a diverse array of resort, hotel, retail & spa articles for the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Resort Development Handbooks (both 1997 and 2008 editions), Urban Land magazine (Resort & Recreation Development issues), SAM (Ski Areas Management) Magazine, Lodging Business magazine, the International Spa Association (ISPA) Pulse Journal, and various business publications and newspapers on topics related to the development & market aspects of the resort, hotel & spa industries.
